about

The Old Dash Churn, How She Gets Up in the Morning, The Torn Bag Apron 2 The Old Dash Churn (4:12)

The collector Brendan Breathnach recorded County Louth fiddle player Peter McArdle in Mark McLoughlin's Bar in Dundalk in 1971. Apparently, due to time and resource constraints, he asked Peter to play only his more unusual tunes and these double jigs were learned from that recording.
Peter and his brother Tommy played music for house dances around the Bog of Ardee in the 1950's and this track reflects their style of playing using simple direct bow strokes and little finger ornamentation or variations.
