Johnny Loughran's, Mixing the Porridge, The Bees in the Cherry Tree

The blind fiddler John Loughran from Pomeroy, Co. Tyrone (1927-1987) was a familiar and welcome musician at fleadhanna throughout the counties during the summer months of the 1970's. His preference was to join and generally lead the street sessions where he was generous with his great store of music and tales. He influenced a generation of musicians in the native Tyrone and beyond. During the same period, Peter McArdle, the source of the second jig, was having a similiar impact on musicians who were travelling to Dundalk from north and south at weekends to learn tunes and play with him in Mark's Bar.
James McMahon (1893-1977), the composer of the the widely known tunes The Kesh Jig and The Banshee Reel contributed the third jig to Liam Donnelly's Co. Fermanagh Dance Tunes. This was a private handwritten collection of the repertoire and compositions of three Fermanagh musicians living in Belfast, McMahon, William Jones and Tommy Gunn, compiled by Donnelly between November 1966 and March 1967 and circulated to interested friends. Nigel Boullier kindly gave me a copy in 1977.
